iPhone 15 – Overheating reports with temperatures as high as 116F

Numerous reports have emerged regarding the iPhone 15 overheating issue, affecting various iPhone 15 models. Infrared camera measurements have indicated temperatures as high as 116 degrees Fahrenheit (46.7 degrees Celsius).

This problem appears to impact all four iPhone 15 variants, with some users reporting that their phones become too hot to handle without a protective case. This concern has even been raised by Ian Zelbo from 9to5Mac.

Some users, like Zelbo, have encountered overheating problems while charging their phones using a wired connection. However, others have experienced the same issue even when their phones are not charging, such as during light tasks like social media browsing.

It’s worth noting that it’s common for iPhones to become warm during the initial 24 hours after setup, especially when transitioning from a previous device or restoring from an iCloud backup. This can involve background processes like app installations and indexing.

However, the reports we’ve received, including feedback from early access reviewers, indicate that the overheating issue persists beyond this initial setup phase.

A Korean YouTuber named BullsLab conducted tests using a Forward-Looking InfraRed (FLIR) camera, also known as a thermal imaging camera. These cameras provide visual representations of detected temperatures, with some models capable of displaying exact temperature readings.

During his tests, BullsLab recorded temperatures as high as 116 degrees Fahrenheit (46.7 degrees Celsius), although this occurred during demanding activities like running benchmarks and playing games.

Even with less demanding tasks, such as those reported by Android Authority, many users have encountered milder versions of this problem.

It’s worth noting that reports about the iPhone 15 Pro Max are prevalent, but this could be influenced by selection bias, as the flagship model was likely chosen by many who placed early orders for launch day delivery.

If you are experiencing overheating problems with your iPhone 15, we would appreciate it if you could participate in our poll and share additional details in the comments section.
